Meet $BUDDY, The Unicorn From A Magic Land

Buddy is the rainbow-maned host of It's Buddy!, the sing-song, Barney-coded kids' show at the center of Casper Kelly's 2026 horror-comedy Buddy. Under the purple belly and pink bandana is a full-blown horror icon, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, who keeps a room full of kids trapped in his show with a smile and a very strict set of rules.

Critics aren't the only ones who noticed. The film opened to a $5.4M weekend across 1,258 theaters, the biggest under-1,800-theater debut of the year, and has since crossed $18.7M on a $3M budget with an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score. Not bad for a killer unicorn.

Buddy doesn't stay in the theater, either. In September he crashed opening night of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, got walked off the property over a "no costumes" rule ("but i'm a unicorn," he protested), and ended up on a street corner holding a sign that read "Security Kicked Me Out!"

Fun fact: the studio ran a whole viral marketing push before the movie even opened, including an "It's Buddy!" alternate reality game on YouTube and a retro Game Boy style tie-in video game. The internet was primed for Buddy long before he showed up on Solana.

That's the energy $BUDDY runs on: a coin built by fans for a character who's already smashing box office records and getting banned from theme parks, with zero involvement from the studio, cast, or Universal.
